Application guidelines
We are happy to accept applications from students studying A Levels, the International Baccalaureate or any equivalent qualifications. You can check the grades that we require for different courses on the individual course pages. If you are applying with non-UK qualifications, please check the International Qualifications page on the Oxford University website.
We are happy to receive international applications. Note that non-native speakers of English must meet the University's English language requirements. Find out about English language requirements on the Oxford University website.
For some subjects you will be asked to submit copies of written work and/or sit a test. Find out more about application requirements on the Courses page on the Oxford University website.
When we have received an application, we will consider your GCSE and National 5 achievements (or their equivalent) and your predicted grades. However, we are interested in potential as well as achievement, so don't feel you must have perfect grades to make an application.
Written work
Where possible we ask that the written work be marked by your teacher as part of your normal schoolwork. If you do not have anything suitable, contact the Undergraduate Admissions Team to discuss alternatives. We would also ask the following:
- Please check the Written work requirements for your subject on the Oxford University website.
- Please remember to keep a copy for your reference.
- We will ask for written work to be sent electronically. We will provide a dedicated email address in the email that will be sent to acknowledge your application.
- Written work is to be sent in the form of a PDF file for each piece of work. Each piece must contain a coversheet. Please do not send individual pages as separate files. JPEG of JIFF images are not acceptable.
Admissions tests
A number of courses require applicants to sit a test as part of the admissions process. Please note test registration is not automatic, and the deadline for booking a test is before the UCAS deadline.

Interviews
All Oxford undergraduate courses involve interviews, which are conducted via Microsoft Teams. Once we have reviewed your application, we will decide whether or not to shortlist you for interview. If you are invited for interviews, these will take place in December.
You may have multiple interviews, and may also be asked to interview with more than one College. More details can be found on the Interviews page of the University’s website.
Offers
Following interviews, we will decide which candidates should be offered a place. Decisions about whether or not you have been offered a place will be sent out in mid-January.

Choral and organ scholarships
St John’s does not participate in either the choral or organ trials organised by the University. It makes awards of choral and organ scholarships from within the student body of the College. We welcome applications in Hilary term from existing undergraduates and graduates, who have had opportunities to experience and evaluate the level of commitment involved in Chapel choir activities.
