Robin Gorna

Robin Gorna didn’t know she was only in the 5th year of women when she matriculated in 1984 to read Theology at St John’s College, Oxford. She enjoyed studying feminist theology and running St John’s Mummers, as well as being in the group that won drama cuppers. When Jonathan Prestwich (fellow Cuppers winner) died in a car crash in 1986, she volunteered with the Terrence Higgins Trust, never knowing this would lead to a career in global health and four decades as an AIDS activist and women's rights activist. She wrote one of the earliest books on Women: Vamps, Virgins & Victims: how can women fight AIDS? She has led many organizations, working in the UK, South Africa, Ethiopia, Australia & globally and co-founded and led the global political movement SheDecides in 2017 - one year after co-founding and Chairing the Women's Network at St John's. She is currently based in Ethiopia where she serves as the Global Health Adviser at the British Embassy.
